CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Everything has an end.
Except circles

Thinking and acting in a linear way are a thing of the past. Businesses that wish to make products in a sustainable and responsible way in line with the European Green Deal must switch to a circular economy. As comprehensively and as quickly as possible. A pathway that involves systematically recovering raw materials that have been used in products. A pathway, therefore, that involves TSR’s products and solutions.

Circular Economy – a question of collaboration

The closer the manufacturing industry and the circular economy work together, the smoother the route is to achieving sustainability goals. This collaboration starts with ‘design for recycling’ to ensure recyclable materials can be recovered in the best possible way, all the way through to recycled raw materials being supplied by TSR in the exact qualities required by their industrial partners.

Realising shared visions together.
Partnerships promoting a circular future

It’s always good when others have the same goals. It’s even better when we can reach them together. We collaborate with industrial partners to drive forward the circular economy and make it even more sustainable. A few groundbreaking examples can be found below.

Recycling for tomorrow’s mobility. With
Audi and TSR

We have been working with Audi to set new standards when it comes to recycling end-of-life vehicles (ELVs). This car manufacturer is the first in its industry to have developed an economically viable concept that enables recycled raw materials to be systematically used as a standard material for producing new vehicles. TSR has been providing support here in a number of different ways: we close material life cycles by using ELVs as a source of raw materials and processing the recovered materials into TSR40, a high-quality raw material. We then guarantee a reliable supply of this raw material so it can be used to produce vehicle bodies. The whole process is coordinated by a virtual material account that we developed together with Audi. This ensures that Audi knows exactly what volumes of TSR40 are available and when. A practical tool that allows the use of recycled raw materials to be efficiently planned and helps make the industry less dependent on the fragile networks supplying virgin raw materials.

Schüco is opening windows. To help tackle climate change

Aluminium can, to all intents and purposes, be recycled endlessly. Which is why we are particularly pleased to have entered into a strategic partnership with Schüco to make the very most of this potential. Together, we have drawn up a closed loop concept that enables our network to take back old Schüco windows and other aluminium and building parts from renovation projects carried out across Germany. We then process this material into TSR136, a high-quality raw material, that can be used straight away to produce new window profiles. A perfect material life cycle that not only ensures that this leading manufacturer of window and façade systems has a reliable supply of raw materials in the future but also helps tackle climate change. Using this material instead of virgin aluminium cuts energy consumption by up to 95% and carbon emissions by up to 85%.

Novelis and TSR. Working together for a greener future

Good things come to those who wait. We have been collaborating with Novelis for many years now. This partnership was extended in October 2024 when we signed a long-term supply agreement with Novelis, a leading provider of sustainable aluminium solutions and a world leader in aluminium rolling and recycling. As a result, we will now be providing them with a guaranteed supply of around 75,000 tonnes of our high-quality raw materials TSR130 and TSR136 over the next three years. One of the reasons that led to the conclusion of this agreement was the successfully completed pilot projects carried out by Novelis and Mercedes. They have succeeded in increasing the recycled aluminium content in the aluminium sheets used for manufacturing car body parts to an impressive 86%. A genuine milestone on the path to decarbonising the automotive industry. And further proof that TSR130 and TSR136 – both made from post-consumer materials – are more than suitable for manufacturing aluminium products subject to the highest requirements.

Decarbonising right now. Not some time down the line

If there is one thing that we don’t have when it comes to tackling climate change, it is time. It is essential that products, such as steel, are decarbonised as quickly as possible. No one knows when there will be sufficient supplies of green hydrogen available and so this is certainly not the short-term solution. The targeted use of recycled raw materials, however, is something that can be implemented right now. Such materials have a huge impact on cutting carbon and conserving natural resources and are available here and now. All this is made possible by the circular economy and, above all, by our team at TSR.

A reliable supplier:
We have the organisational structures to be able to live up to our role as a supplier of large quantities of raw materials.

Our network stretches across Germany and Europe and ensures we have a permanent supply of sufficient input material to make our high-quality products.

We have the knowledge and technology to transform all types of input material into highquality raw materials for industry. With guaranteed levels of quality.

Thanks to our operational, tactical and strategic supply chain management system, we can meet our customers’ current and future needs.

Our industrial partners also have the option to have us manage their material streams as a service provider

With a variety of material sources for guaranteed security of supply

A reliable recycler:
Our core mission is to make sure that all incoming material is processed so that it can be reused. This ensures that the very most is made of the material and is both environmentally and economically sustainable.

Material flow management is organised in such a way that recyclable substances are filtered out of the material – all the way down to the smallest economically viable unit.

We also recover substances from material streams that are not made of metal. For example, plastics and glass

We also reliably handle the treatment of all leftover residual materials that are unable to be recycled for reuse.
